Governor Hochul Sends Inflation Refund Checks to Over 8 Million New Yorkers
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Governor Kathy Hochul has announced that New York State’s first-ever inflation refund checks are being sent to more than 8 million households across the state. Eligible residents will receive payments of up to $400, with no application or sign-up required. Mailings are expected to continue through October and November.

Governor Hochul emphasized that the checks are intended to return money directly to residents, saying the initiative “puts it back in your pockets” to help families cope with rising living costs. The refunds follow other measures from the Governor, including middle-class tax cuts, an expanded Child Tax Credit, and universal free school meals.

Eligibility is based on 2023 income and tax filings. Joint filers earning up to $150,000 will receive $400, joint filers earning between $150,001 and $300,000 will receive $300. Single filers earning up to $75,000 will receive $200, and single filers earning between $75,001 and $150,000 will receive $150. There are no age restrictions, and residents do not need to take any action to receive their checks.
