Citizen Union, a nonpartisan group focused on accountable governance, has endorsed Andrew Cuomo for the Democratic primary for New York City mayor. Cuomo’s resignation amid controversy years ago makes this endorsement a significant U-turn.

This election cycle, Citizens Union urges voters to rank three candidates equally: Cuomo, City Comptroller Brad Lander, and State Senator Zellnor Myrie. The group stressed the complexity of the city’s political environment, noting that no single candidate is fully prepared to solve all its challenges.

Cuomo has nearly eleven years of experience as governor, as well as previous roles in state and federal government, which gives him strong executive expertise. Citizens Union noted his success in delivering major infrastructure projects, passing legislative reforms, and cutting government waste. His record includes election reforms, stricter lobbying laws, and police oversight rules, demonstrating his ability to navigate New York’s complex political system.

Cuomo expressed gratitude to the Citizens Union for their support during this crucial period for New York City. He committed to restoring strong leadership and promoting the city’s growth by bringing together community leaders, organized labor, and working New Yorkers throughout the metropolis.
