A violent incident aboard Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas resulted in the death of a crew member and the hospitalization of another while the vessel was sailing near the Bahamas on July 24.

Bahamas police reported that a 35-year-old South African man allegedly stabbed a 28-year-old female colleague, also from South Africa, during an altercation onboard. Following the attack, the suspect jumped overboard near San Salvador Island.

The ship’s crew launched an emergency response, including a man-overboard alert. The male crew member was pulled from the water and later pronounced dead. The injured woman received medical treatment on board and is reported to be in stable condition.

Royal Caribbean attributed the incident to a personal dispute between the two employees. The company confirmed medical staff responded immediately and said no further details would be shared out of respect for those affected. Names of the individuals involved have not been released.

An autopsy is being conducted to determine the cause of death. Authorities continue to investigate the motive behind the incident.
