Families looking for a place to shop for toys this holiday season could soon have a familiar option back in their communities.
Toys “R” Us is planning a major U.S. expansion, with 120 new standalone stores expected to open across the country ahead of the 2026 holiday shopping season. The expansion would bring the number of standalone Toys “R” Us locations in the United States to about 160.
For many parents and children, the return represents the revival of a retailer that was once a familiar part of American shopping centers. The company closed its U.S. stores after filing for bankruptcy in 2017, but has been rebuilding its presence in recent years.
The new stores are expected to carry popular brands including LEGO, Barbie, Hot Wheels and Pokémon, giving families another option for holiday and birthday shopping.
Some locations will also feature candy shops, cafés and spaces for toy-related events and activities.
Toys “R” Us already operates hundreds of smaller stores inside Macy’s locations nationwide. The new standalone stores are part of an effort to establish the brand once again as a destination for families and children.
