Trump Sues CBS for $10 Billion Over Alleged Election Interference in Harris Interview

On Thursday, October 31st, former President Donald Trump filed a $10 billion lawsuit against CBS News, alleging that the network engaged in “deceptive conduct” during an interview with Vice President Kamala Harris. The lawsuit claims that CBS’s actions constitute election interference intended to mislead the public as the 2024 presidential race heats up.

Trump’s legal team asserts that CBS’s edits to the interview were partisan and designed to confuse voters. The complaint characterizes these actions as malicious, deceptive, and substantial news distortion, claiming they aimed to create an advantage for the Democratic Party.

In the lawsuit, Trump emphasizes the immense harm caused to him, his campaign, and millions of Americans due to CBS’s misleading broadcasting conduct. He seeks redress for what he views as a significant breach of journalistic ethics.

The controversy centers on a segment aired on 60 Minutes, where Harris’s response to a question about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu raised concerns. In a preview clip on “Face the Nation,” Harris stated, “We are not going to stop pursuing what is necessary for the United States to be clear about where we stand on the need for this war to end.” Critics have accused CBS of editing her comments to shield her from backlash, prompting calls for the full interview transcript.

Previously, Trump’s attorneys wrote to CBS News demanding the unedited transcript and urging the network to preserve all documents related to the interview. CBS has declined to release the full transcript, defending its editing choices and insisting that the interview was not manipulated to mislead viewers.

The lawsuit argues that media organizations must accurately represent the truth of events, rather than distort interviews to enhance candidates’ images. “To paper over Kamala’s ‘word salad’ weakness, CBS used its national platform on 60 Minutes to cross the line from the exercise of judgment in reporting to deceitful, deceptive manipulation of news,” the lawsuit states.

Trump demands a jury trial and seeks compensation for the alleged ongoing false and misleading actions of CBS, along with attorney fees and any other relief the court deems appropriate.
