President Donald Trump announced that he is dispatching White House border czar Tom Homan to Minnesota to oversee Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations in Minneapolis and St. Paul. In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote, “I am sending Tom Homan to Minnesota tonight. He has not been involved in that area, but knows and likes many of the people there. Tom is tough but fair, and will report directly to me.”

Homan’s deployment comes amid unrest surrounding ICE activities, including two recent deaths of protesters during federal enforcement operations. Both Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti were killed while interfering with ICE operations, prompting local and national scrutiny of enforcement tactics. Good used her vehicle and nearly struck an ICE agent, causing internal injuries. Pretti carried a semi-automatic firearm with two full magazines and was part of a coordinated network of anti-ICE protesters.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt emphasized that Homan will manage ICE efforts on the ground while coordinating with other federal authorities investigating alleged welfare fraud in Minnesota. Trump referenced the ongoing investigation into what he described as “massive 20 Billion Dollar, Plus, Welfare Fraud” in the state, asserting that it has contributed to organized protests.

Trump also highlighted scrutiny of Representative Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., noting her reported net worth increase in recent years and stating, “Time will tell all. Thank you for your attention to this matter.”

Federal authorities have faced challenges executing operations in Minneapolis, with large crowds interfering and at least one ICE agent injured in prior incidents. Officials maintain that the enforcement actions target criminal illegal immigrants, while critics question the scope and handling of the operations.
