On Tuesday, November 12th, President-elect Donald Trump announced the appointment of John Ratcliffe, former Director of National Intelligence, as the new Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) for his second term in office. Ratcliffe, who served as Trump’s principal intelligence advisor during his first term, will take on the role during a critical time for United States national security.

In a statement, Trump praised Ratcliffe for his dedication to addressing misinformation and concerns within U.S. intelligence. “From exposing fake Russian collusion to being a warrior for truth during the FBI’s abuse of civil liberties at the FISA Court, John Ratcliffe has always been a warrior for Truth and Honesty with the American Public,” Trump said.

Ratcliffe previously served as the Director of National Intelligence (DNI), where he oversaw the 17 agencies that constitute the U.S. intelligence community. In 2020, Trump honored Ratcliffe with the National Security Medal, recognizing his exceptional contributions to intelligence and national security.

Trump expressed confidence in Ratcliffe’s ability to handle the complexities of leading the CIA. “He will be a fearless fighter for the Constitutional Rights of all Americans, while ensuring the highest levels of national security,” Trump reaffirmed his commitment to “peace through strength.”

During his tenure in Congress, Ratcliffe served on the House Intelligence and Judiciary Committees, gaining a reputation as a prominent authority on national security matters. He also gained prominence during the 2019 impeachment proceedings for his active involvement, serving as a member of Trump’s impeachment advisory team. Ratcliffe was known for his assertive questioning of witnesses during the hearings.

The chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, Representative Mike Turner, R-Ohio, praised the decision, saying, “John will play a vital role in protecting the American people, bolstering our national security, and supporting U.S. interests and allies abroad.”

Ratcliffe’s appointment marks a pivotal step in strengthening U.S. intelligence capabilities and leadership at a time when global threats remain a top priority for the nation.
