United States Senator Kirsten Gillibrand has announced that she will join the Senate Committee on Appropriations for the new Congress. This committee is crucial for overseeing federal spending and allocating funds to various programs and government agencies.

In a statement released on Thursday, January 2nd, Gillibrand expressed her honor in being selected to serve on the influential committee. “I am deeply honored to have been selected to serve on the Senate Committee on Appropriations. This role is an incredible opportunity to ensure that federal dollars are used to make life better for Americans, support hardworking families, and address the pressing challenges faced by our nation at home and abroad,” she said.

Gillibrand, a New York Democrat, also emphasized her continued dedication to advocating for the needs of New Yorkers. “As I assume this new position, I am committed to continuing to advocate for the needs of New Yorkers, and I look forward to helping deliver federal funding to programs and organizations in New York that help our great state thrive,” she added.

Along with her new role on the Appropriations Committee, Gillibrand will retain her positions on the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence and the Senate Armed Services Committee. Additionally, she will serve as the ranking member of the Senate Special Committee on Aging.

Gillibrand, who was reelected to a third full term in November 2024, has served on the Senate Aging Committee since 2009. She has been a strong advocate for older Americans, focusing on issues such as prescription drug costs, Social Security and Medicare protection, and safeguarding against financial scams.

As Congress reconvenes this week, Gillibrand’s new role promises to have a significant impact on federal spending decisions, further solidifying her position as a key figure in both state and national politics.
