On Friday, September 26, 2025, Rudy Giuliani reached a confidential settlement with Dominion Voting Systems, ending the company’s $1.3 billion defamation lawsuit. A filing in federal court in Washington, D.C., confirmed the case would be dismissed, though the terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Dominion sued Giuliani in 2021, accusing him of spreading false claims that its voting machines shifted ballots to Joe Biden during the 2020 presidential race. The company’s equipment was used in Georgia, a key battleground state that ultimately gave Democrats control of the U.S. Senate.

Giuliani’s allegations contributed to a wave of conspiracy theories that eroded confidence in the election, prompted threats against election workers, and fueled calls to eliminate voting machines altogether. Investigations by Trump’s Justice Department and other officials found no evidence of widespread fraud. Dominion has previously secured large settlements in related cases, including about $787 million from Fox News in 2023 and $67 million from Newsmax this year.

The settlement adds to Giuliani’s mounting legal troubles. He has been disbarred in New York and Washington, declared bankruptcy, and ordered to pay nearly $150 million to two Georgia election workers he defamed. Earlier this month, a judge in New York directed him to cover $1.36 million in unpaid legal fees.
