New York Attorney General Letitia James Indicted on Bank Fraud Charge

New York Attorney General Letitia James was indicted Thursday by a Virginia grand jury on at least one count of bank fraud. The indictment follows evidence presented by the interim U.S. Attorney Lindsey Halligan, recently appointed amid pressure from the Trump administration to pursue cases against the president’s political opponents.

James, who previously sued President Donald Trump and his company for alleged financial fraud, has been a longstanding critic of the president. Halligan, a former White House aide and Trump’s personal lawyer with no prior federal prosecution experience, presented the case to the grand jury. She recently secured an indictment against former FBI Director James Comey.

Trump publicly called for James to face charges, posting that she is “guilty as hell.” James’ lawyer, Abbe Lowell, stressed that she “never misled anyone” and described the investigation as politically motivated. The case, still under seal, stems from a 2020 home purchase in Norfolk, Virginia.

This is a developing story.
