On Tuesday, July 2nd, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani was officially disbarred by the New York Supreme Court due to his involvement in efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election results. The court’s decision prohibits Giuliani from practicing law, marking a significant fall from grace for the once-prominent attorney and personal lawyer to former President Donald Trump.

The court’s ruling follows a period of suspension during which Giuliani was barred from legal practice while disciplinary proceedings were conducted. The court stated, “The seriousness of Giuliani’s misconduct cannot be overstated,” emphasizing his misuse of his position to make false statements and perjurious claims about the 2020 election. These actions, according to the court, not only violated fundamental legal principles but also contributed to the national discord following the election.

Giuliani’s disbarment is a direct consequence of his role in propagating baseless claims of election fraud, which included misleading federal courts, state lawmakers, and the public. The court highlighted that Giuliani was unrepentant for his actions, which significantly undermined the integrity of the electoral process in the United States.

This decision comes amidst Giuliani’s ongoing legal troubles, including multiple criminal indictments related to his efforts to influence the 2020 election outcomes. His disbarment is a notable development in the broader legal repercussions faced by those involved in attempts to subvert the democratic process.
