Trump Administration Rejects UN Migration Forum, Reaffirms Remigration Policy

The United States has formally rejected participation in the International Migration Review Forum and announced it would not support the forum’s May 8th declaration on migration, reinforcing the Trump administration’s opposition to global migration frameworks.

In a statement, the administration said that migration policies supported by the United Nations weaken national sovereignty and place financial and social pressure on American communities. It cited increased strain at the border, higher spending on migrant assistance programs, and what officials described as negative impacts of large-scale migration on housing, employment, and public services.

The administration also reiterated its support for stricter immigration controls, emphasizing that its priority is “not to ‘manage’ migration, but to foster remigration.” President Donald Trump previously withdrew U.S. support from the UN Global Compact for Migration during his first term, a position the White House continues to defend.
