First Lady Melania Trump’s Fostering the Future initiative is expanding to two more universities through a $2 million donation from IndyCar and Fox Corporation that will fund scholarships for students who have experienced foster care.
The announcement was made today during a White House Rose Garden ceremony.
Indiana University and Purdue University are joining the program, bringing the Fostering the Future network to 26 colleges and universities across the country.
Trump said the initiative is designed to help young people from the foster care system pursue higher education, develop careers and achieve financial independence.
“Tomorrow’s leaders are sitting in classrooms today, including those growing up in foster care,” the first lady said.
The program, established in 2021, is part of Trump’s BE BEST initiative. Participating schools include Ohio State University, the University of Florida, University of Georgia, University of Wisconsin, University of Alabama and Arizona State University.
The initiative has expanded beyond scholarships to include housing and financial assistance.
The White House said $30 million was included in President Trump’s FY2026 budget for the Melania Trump Foster Youth to Independence housing program.
In June, Fostering the Future Accounts were also launched to help foster youth save and invest for their futures.
“Fostering the Future Accounts give foster children the same chance for asset ownership and long-term wealth building as every other American child. By investing in our foster youth now, we help strengthen America’s workforce, communities, and economic future,” the First Lady explained.
The partnership will be highlighted during the Freedom 250 Grand Prix in Washington, D.C., August 22nd-23rd.
IndyCar race cars will carry BE BEST and Fostering the Future branding as part of an effort to raise awareness of the needs of young people in foster care.
