A 37-year-old man was shot and killed in Minneapolis on Saturday during an encounter with federal agents, city officials confirmed. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said the man was carrying a firearm and two magazines at the time of the incident.
According to DHS, federal agents fired in self-defense after the man attempted to resist arrest. The agency also released a photograph of the firearm the victim allegedly had in his possession.

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara confirmed the death and said the victim was believed to be a U.S. citizen and a lawful gun owner.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey described the federal immigration crackdown as an “invasion” and said the operation is doing nothing to create safety in Minneapolis.
The shooting also drew sharp criticism from Democratic leaders, who blamed the Trump administration for escalating violence in Minnesota and called for federal agents to leave the city immediately.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries said in an X post, “Masked and lawless DHS agents have brutally killed another American citizen,” adding that “they must be held criminally accountable to the full extent of the law.”
In response to Democrats’ criticism of federal agents, White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller said, “A would-be assassin tried to murder federal law enforcement, and the official Democratic account sides with the terrorists.”

The shooting occurred amid widespread daily protests in Minneapolis following the January 7 killing of 37-year-old Renee Good, who died after an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer fired into her vehicle during a federal enforcement operation.
