Jenifer Rajkumar Gains Key Endorsements and Fundraising Lead in Public Advocate Race

State Assemblywoman Jenifer Rajkumar has announced a significant fundraising lead and key endorsements in her campaign for New York City Public Advocate. As of March 17, 2025, Rajkumar has over $1.2 million more cash on hand than incumbent Jumaane Williams. She has also secured endorsements from U.S. Congressmen Ro Khanna and Shri Thanedar, as well as several New York City district leaders, strengthening her position in the race.

Rajkumar is the only woman candidate running citywide to qualify for matching funds so far, while Williams has not yet met the requirement. Her campaign has gained momentum with a grassroots effort spanning all five boroughs and engaging all communities. Congressman Ro Khanna praised her as “the future of the Democratic Party in New York” and commended her advocacy for “women’s rights, health care, and immigrant communities.” Congressman Shri Thanedar highlighted her leadership, stating she has “set a gold standard for what it means to be an effective public servant.”

Mayor Sam Joshi of Edison, New Jersey, emphasized Rajkumar’s historic leadership, stating “she did what no one before her could do—she made it happen” in reference to her success in making Diwali a public school holiday. District leaders Melissa Sklarz, Arleny Alvarado-McCalla, and Heriberto Mateo also endorsed her, recognizing her work in unifying communities and fighting against hate and violence. Her supporters view her as a candidate capable of delivering meaningful change.

Rajkumar’s legislative track record includes passing protections for domestic workers and creating New York State’s first AAPI Commission. She has been a vocal advocate against hate crimes and for increased representation of marginalized groups in government. Her ability to secure widespread endorsements and strong financial backing underscores her growing influence in the race.

With national and local leaders rallying behind her, Rajkumar’s campaign continues to build momentum. Her supporters highlight her dedication to public service and her effectiveness in passing progressive policies. As the race for Public Advocate intensifies, her endorsements and financial advantage position her as a leading challenger.
