A 12-year-old girl was shot multiple times in the Bronx on Monday night, October 12th, in a shooting that police believe may have involved an unintended victim.
The girl was struck in the torso and right foot near Tratman Avenue and Rowland Street in the Westchester Square section of the Bronx at approximately 8:30 p.m., according to police reports.
She was transported to Montefiore Medical Center, where she was reported in serious but stable condition.Â
Authorities were searching for two suspects who fled the scene. No arrests had been announced as of Tuesday morning, and the circumstances surrounding the shooting remained under investigation.
The incident follows the fatal shooting of 15-year-old Jihad Pack outside the Martin Luther King Jr. Towers NYCHA housing complex in Harlem on October 7th.
Pack was shot in the stomach near West 115th Street. A 57-year-old man was also wounded in the hand during the incident. Pack was taken to Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital, where he later died.
Prosecutors described the teenager’s killing as an orchestrated attack.Â
A 15-year-old suspect was arrested and ordered held without bail, while the alleged gunman remained at large in the latest reports. Investigators have examined whether an online dispute may have contributed to the shooting.
The two incidents have brought renewed attention to gun violence affecting young people in New York City. In one case, a middle-school-aged child was wounded in a Bronx neighborhood; in the other, a teenager lost his life outside a public housing development.
Police investigations into both shootings were ongoing as authorities worked to establish the circumstances and identify those responsible.
