Federal agents raided the Washington, D.C. home of U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar early Monday morning, October 12th, as part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation, according to the Department of Justice.

Agents from Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), the investigative arm of the Department of Homeland Security, carried out the search under a court-authorized warrant. The Justice Department confirmed the operation but did not publicly disclose the full scope or details of the investigation.

The investigation reportedly centers on questions surrounding Omar’s immigration paperwork and her family’s immigration history. The allegations have circulated for years, but the precise evidence being examined and the status of the investigation remain unclear.

Omar, a Minnesota Democrat who represents the state’s 5th Congressional District, was born in Somalia and came to the United States as a child. She was elected to Congress in 2018 and became one of the first two Muslim American women to serve in the House of Representatives.

The search comes just weeks before the November 3 midterm elections, in which Omar is seeking reelection. The timing is likely to intensify political debate, as President Donald Trump and other Republicans have repeatedly criticized the congresswoman.

Federal authorities have not publicly announced any charges against Omar in connection with Monday’s search. Her office had not immediately responded to requests for comment, according to initial media reports.

The investigation remains ongoing, and further details have yet to be confirmed.
