The FDNY and FDNY Foundation brought firefighters, families, and community members together on Saturday, August 15, for a summer block party in Co-op City, with Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Council Member Kevin Riley joining the festivities.
The event, held on Asch Loop by the Engine 66/Ladder 61 firehouse, featured opportunities for residents to meet FDNY members, learn about fire safety and enjoy a family-focused community gathering.Â
Riley also presented a $3,130,000 check to the FDNY for critical roof and window replacements at the firehouse.
The FDNY Foundation, established in 1981, is the official nonprofit organization supporting the New York City Fire Department. Its mission is to promote fire and life safety education while helping the FDNY maintain training, equipment and operational readiness. The Foundation also supports community programs, including smoke-alarm installations, CPR training and youth initiatives.
The Co-op City event was part of the FDNY and Foundation’s 2026 summer block-party series designed to strengthen relationships between New Yorkers and the firefighters who serve them.
