The United States and Iran have announced a landmark peace agreement aimed at ending months of conflict and reducing tensions across the Middle East.Â
President Donald Trump announced the agreement on Truth Social, saying “The Deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete. Congratulations to all! I hereby fully authorize the toll free opening of the Strait of Hormuz, and, simultaneously herewith, authorize the immediate removal of the United States Naval blockade. Ships of the World, start your engines. Let the oil flow! President DONALD J. TRUMP”
The deal includes an immediate halt to military operations, the reopening of the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, and the launch of a 60-day negotiation period to address outstanding issues, including Iran’s nuclear program and international sanctions.
The agreement is expected to be formally signed on Friday in Switzerland. The reopening of the Strait of Hormuz is expected to restore global energy shipments and bring down the price of gas at the pump for Americans.
